WHY

The national outlook is grim:

  • According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, nearly two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese.
  • The trend toward obesity is gaining momentum in both genders, at every age, in every ethnic group, and at all levels of education.
  •
  • Overweight and obesity are more dangerous than smoking, drinking or poverty, primarily because high weight is related to chronic killers such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, diabetes and coronary disease.
  • Obesity alone robs employers of roughly $39,000,000 annually in lost workdays.
  • Employees with weight-related problems incur annual health care costs that are 39% higher and prescription costs 105% higher than average.  This cost is translated directly to employers

But we can make a positive difference almost immediately:

  • Even a modest reduction of 5-15% of body weight can create significant health benefits.
  • Healthy employees use less sick time - meaning fewer unplanned absences - and are less likely to use workers’ compensation and disability policies.
  • Employees in good health are more productive and happier at work; they also tend to be more loyal to employers providing wellness benefits.
  • Special benefit programs, such as wellness plans, are critical to the recruitment and retention of top employees.
  • FIT-ology corporate wellness solutions are tailored to each client’s needs and budget, making it a significant, justifiable return on investment.

Helping employees get and stay healthy is part of being a responsible corporate citizen:  it is the right thing to do for your people and for your bottom line.
